As a wedding photographer, I love arriving during this part of the day. It’s full of emotion and anticipation—and when we time it right, the result is pure magic.
⏰ Ideal Timing
💍 For Brides: I recommend setting aside at least 1 hour for getting ready portraits.
🎩 For Grooms: About 30–45 minutes is typically enough.
This allows me to photograph details, candids, and final touches—without anyone feeling rushed.
👰 Bride Getting Ready – What to Expect
I usually arrive toward the end of hair and makeup, just in time to capture final touch-ups and those sweet in-between moments with your closest people.
Must-have moments:
✔️ Laughing with your bridesmaids
✔️ Final makeup touches
✔️ Slipping into your dress
✔️ Veil placement
✔️ Buttoning or zipping with Mom, sister, or someone special
✔️ A first look with Dad or the bridal party
Photographer Tip: Choose a room with good window light, and tidy up or designate a clean corner! It makes a huge difference in your photos.
✨ Bridal Detail Shots – Items to Have Ready
Gather all your details in one spot before I arrive. That way, I can dive in without needing to hunt anything down!
- Dress (on a wooden/personalized hanger—no plastic ones, please!)
- Shoes
- Jewelry
- Veil
- Perfume
- Invitation suite
- Rings (all 3 if possible: engagement + both bands)
- Bouquet
- Vow book or letter
- Any heirlooms (photos, charms, something borrowed, etc.)
🥃 Groom Getting Ready – Laid Back but Worth Capturing
The guys usually don’t need quite as much time, but that doesn’t mean we skip this part! I love capturing their unique energy—laid-back, fun, sometimes chaotic in the best way.
Must-have moments:
✔️ Cheers or shots with the groomsmen
✔️ Adjusting ties, cufflinks, or suspenders
✔️ Hanging out, playing pool/cards, joking around
✔️ Shoes, jacket, cologne spritz
