There are some weddings you simply can’t replicate — the kind that unfold quietly in nature, shaped by weather and moment instead of timelines or venues. Grace and Luis’ Black Friday elopement-style wedding in Summit Hill, PA was exactly that. Set deep inside a 4,200-acre forest they accessed from her aunt’s backyard, their day blended emotion, culture, and the peacefulness of the woods in winter.

For couples searching for a Summit Hill wedding photographer, Pocono elopement inspiration, or an intimate Pennsylvania forest wedding, this one is a dream.

How It All Started

Grace found me through a Google search and reached out with one of the most genuine inquiries I’ve ever received:

“The location isn’t an official venue — just a pretty spot in a 4,200-acre forest. We can drive part of the trail, but we’ll walk the last ten minutes…”

From that moment, I knew this wasn’t a typical wedding. It was a true elopement experience in the heart of Pennsylvania, guided by family, heritage, and the land around them.

Getting Ready at Her Aunt’s House

Both Grace and Luis got ready at her aunt’s home on the outskirts of the forest — the same spot they used as the “trailhead” into the ceremony site. Coverage started at noon, snow already falling softly in the background.

Their wedding colors — moody reds, sunset oranges, warm pinks and tans — looked incredible against the backdrop of winter light.

It was intimate. Calm. Emotional. Exactly the kind of energy you hope for during a backyard-to-forest elopement.

A Backyard First Look as Snow Drifted Down

Grace and Luis shared their first look right in the backyard before walking into the woods. Snowflakes settled on her bouquet and in his hair, giving the moment a cinematic feel. They stood together quietly, letting it all sink in.

This is the magic of choosing nature over a venue — nothing staged, nothing forced. Just atmosphere.

The Walk Into the Woods

Their ceremony spot wasn’t a formal venue. It wasn’t marked. It wasn’t mapped. It was simply a beautiful clearing Grace’s aunt had discovered — and that made it perfect.

Everyone bundled up and walked the remaining ten minutes into the forest, following the narrow trail as snow thickened overhead. This hike-in experience is becoming more popular for adventure elopements in Pennsylvania, and honestly — it’s worth it every time.

A Snow-Dusted Forest Ceremony

The ceremony took place in a natural clearing surrounded by tall pines. Snow covered the branches, the path, the ground — all of it looking straight out of a winter romance film.

Florals from FineArtSnow and Ling’s Moment added color and texture against the white landscape.

Their group was small — about twenty guests — just close family and a few friends. Grace walked in with her relatives, and Luis’ reaction said everything.

It was heartfelt, personal, and beautifully simple.

Portraits in a True Winter Wonderland

Instead of rushing to a reception, we spent most of their coverage taking portraits around the forest — documenting every texture, every snowfall, every quiet moment between them.

If you’re planning a Pocono elopement, Summit Hill wedding, or micro-wedding in the Carbon County woods, this kind of setting is unmatched. You get:

  • soft, diffused light
  • natural backdrops everywhere
  • privacy
  • unposed moments
  • space to breathe and be yourselves

Grace and Luis explored the trees together, laughing through the cold and warming each other’s hands. Their gallery is full of moody, cinematic imagery — the style I’m most known for.

Puerto Rican Hot Cocoa Tradition

After the ceremony, everyone walked back to the house where Grace surprised her family with something special: Puerto Rican hot cocoa — with cheese melted at the bottom, a tradition she grew up with.

She made it herself, ladling it into mugs for everyone to warm their hands while they snacked on charcuterie. Snow outside, steam from cocoa inside — it was the perfect ending to an intimate winter wedding.

A Wedding Planned in Two Weeks

Grace and Luis booked me just two weeks before their date — proof that you don’t need a year of planning to create a meaningful wedding.

You need:

A location that matters.

People you love.

A photographer who thrives in nature and emotion.

And a willingness to embrace whatever the day brings — even snowfall.
